I make 10" blocks for Cruces Creatives' Charitable Quilting project. This is a community project to provide quilts for our community. Individuals make foundation pieced blocks which are collected at Cruces Creatives. When enough come in, the charitable sewing leaders (Eva and Dina) put them together to make a quilt.
I make my blocks using crazy quilter's flip and sew techniques. The foundation is flannel, which will act as the quilt's batting (in our warm climate that makes the quilt useful for more of the year). Fabric is all out of my large stash of scraps and orphan blocks. I do not use patterns, instead adding each piece based on the prior ones. Most blocks use a log cabin type layout.
Making these blocks brings me more joy than I expected. Not only do I get the joy of helping others, but also the creative joy of making improv blocks. These are like little miniature quilts, each unique in their own right.
